The beginning of this month the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) group got to do something really unique and cool. They were able to attend the local Equality Fest that promoted equality of all kinds. I was so proud that the teens from GSA wanted to take part in this and that they showed up to help out and make a stand for equality! Read on for more information and pictures!

GSA Zine: Part 2
It is really wonderful to see the teens completing this amazing finished product. The creativity, thought, and time they all put into this zine is really spectacular. I am so proud to see it completed and I really look forward to taking it to Equality Fest! Here are some pictures of the completed project. This is not the whole zine, but just a snapshot, and I think it looks awesome! We were able to copy it off in a rainbow order, which I think is perfect.
Since zines are really easy to put together and adapt themselves well to multiple subjects, think of how this could apply to your library and your teens! (A teen zine!) Do your teens enjoy art? Make an art zine! Do they love books? Revamp their book selections in the form of a zine! (A mini book teens can take with them about other books teens liked....ohh) There are tons of possibilities with zines!
I will give you some tips on how to pull together a basic zine but......
First, a recap on what a zine is: A zine is a way for people with a message or ideas to get their word out there by making it themselves! Zines were popular again during the 80's and have recently experienced a more main-stream resurgence. Zines cover a variety of topics, interests, and formats.
Basic zine:
Copier paper
Simple images
Simple text
Staples
Stapler
Copier
Fold the copier paper into four and cut apart.
Fill the pages with art, words, or other images.
Staple together and copy away!
(Make sure your zine is in a multiple of four, or it will not work so well)
